Today I ran into a strange issue with my vCenter Server which resulted in the inability to maintain the vCenter inventory. I could logon to vCenter but simply the inventory was gone? How? Until today everything was fine with no issues at all? Even after a restart, the problem remained!
Luckily VMware support pointed me in the right direction with this article, which was the %SystemDrive% free space. It went down during this wekend and ended below 5% free space, causing VMware to showdown the database. Indications for this behaviour can be found in the logfile vpxd-####.log, located in the directory '%allusersprofile%\VMware\vCenterServer\logs\vmware-vpx':

After a thorough cleanup of the indicated disk and a restart of the server the vCenter Server showed all entries in the inventory again.
